Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of modern possibilities of olfactometry and the development of an accessible method for diagnosing olfactory disorders. The olfactory analyser is considered one of the most complex sensory systems of the human body, providing recognition, analysis and identification of odours, while also participating in eating behaviour and emotional responses. It is noted that in recent years, especially against the background of the spread of coronavirus infection, the frequency of olfactory disorders has increased, which has strengthened the need for early diagnosis of olfactory analyser pathologies. The article analyses existing olfactometric techniques and substantiates the need for their modification with regard to economic accessibility, the absence of special equipment and the possibility of use in resource-limited settings. The authors propose a modified set of odorants including nine substances in different dilutions, allowing the assessment of odour perception and recognition thresholds. It is shown that the proposed method is economical, convenient in use, does not require complex staff training and makes it possible to carry out the examination within a short time. It is concluded that the developed set expands the diagnostic possibilities of olfactometry and can be used for a more accurate assessment of olfactory analyser sensitivity.
