ELECTROCHEMICAL COMPATIBILITY OF METAL ALLOYS USED FOR NON-REMOVABLE PROSTHETICS ON DENTAL IMPLANTS

Abstract

The article considers the problem of electrochemical compatibility of construction alloys used for fixed prosthetic restorations on dental implants. The relevance of the study is determined by the wide use of various metallic alloys in prosthetic dentistry and by the need to assess their biocompatibility during prolonged contact with titanium implant alloys in the oral cavity. The aim of the study was to investigate the electrochemical compatibility of the most common dental alloys in contact pairs with titanium. The experimental study was carried out in artificial saliva using samples of nickel-chromium, cobalt-chromium and gold-containing alloys. It was established that the highest voltage values both at the moment of immersion and after 30 minutes of exposure were observed in titanium pairs with nickel-chromium and cobalt-chromium alloys, especially in samples that had not been sandblasted after casting. The lowest voltage values were found in titanium pairs with gold-containing alloys. It was shown that exposure in the model solution leads to a shift of alloy electrode potentials toward the positive range, which indicates the formation of protective surface layers. It was concluded that contact between titanium and different dental alloys produces different electromotive force, while the question of the effect of the resulting electrochemical voltage on the human body remains open and requires further investigation.
