Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of modern possibilities of using oral fluid microcrystallization indicators in the diagnosis, prediction of development and course of surgical pathology of the maxillofacial region, as well as in the assessment of treatment effectiveness. The work is based on an analysis of domestic and foreign specialized literature published in 2007–2022. The paper considers the main approaches to studying the crystalline structure of biological fluids, including initiated crystallogenesis, the edge dehydration method and the wedge dehydration method. Particular attention is paid to the oral fluid microcrystallization index as a non-invasive, simple and reproducible diagnostic criterion. It is shown that qualitative and quantitative assessment of the crystalline structure of a dried drop of oral fluid can be used in infectious and inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial region, chronic odontogenic sinusitis, inflammatory complications after dental implantation, chronic pharyngitis, inflammatory diseases in HIV-infected patients, salivary stone disease and other pathological conditions. It is noted that changes in the microcrystallization index make it possible to objectively assess the presence of a pathological process, its severity, the dynamics of its course and the effectiveness of therapeutic and preventive measures. It is concluded that the study of oral fluid microcrystallization has high clinical significance and is promising for further implementation in practical healthcare as an effective non-invasive system for diagnosis and prediction of maxillofacial diseases.
