ORGAN-PRESERVING TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH SALIVARY STONE DISEASE

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of organ-preserving approaches to the treatment of patients with salivary stone disease. The paper presents the results of examination and treatment of 620 patients conducted by the authors from 2003 to the present time. As part of комплекс therapeutic measures, sialolithotripsy was performed in 144 patients, while 476 patients underwent surgical removal of stones from different parts of the parotid or submandibular ducts. Follow-up examination was carried out for up to 16 years after treatment. It was established that lithotripsy resulted in recovery in 63% of patients, improvement in 31%, and no change in only 6% of cases. It was also shown that surgical removal of salivary stones from the posterior parts of the submandibular duct was effective in the overwhelming majority of patients. The study results demonstrate that the presence of salivary stone disease with localisation of the concretion in the distal parts of the parotid or submandibular ducts is not an indication for removal of the salivary gland. After elimination of the stone, the gland function is restored, which confirms the high clinical significance of organ-preserving treatment methods.
