THE ROLE OF WOMAN IN TRADITIONAL AND MODERN KYRGYZ SOCIETY

Abstract

This article examines the role of women in the public life of Kyrgyzstan during the traditional and modern periods of social development. Changes in the role and status of women in Kyrgyz society are identified, and the conditions for observing the principles of gender equality and for the participation of modern women in solving political, economic, social, cultural and moral issues are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the historical features of women’s position in the traditional Kyrgyz family, the importance of women’s labour, their educational function, as well as the contribution of women artisans to the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of local communities. The article reflects the main directions of promoting women at all levels of political power in Kyrgyzstan and substantiates the necessity of their participation in governance structures and decision-making. It is emphasised that ensuring gender equality, expanding women’s political representation and supporting their economic activity are important conditions for the sustainable development of modern Kyrgyz society.
